Aquarium Park Act 1 theme from “Sonic Colors”
Sonic Colors was without a doubt the all-time best Sonic the Hedgehog console games in over a decade. It featured mind blowing, incredible space worlds with a Sonic the Hedgehog twist that actually puts Super Mario Galaxy to shame in the “awesome” department. The developers finally listened to the critics and fans to fix the awkward controls, bring back retro gameplay, polish the level design and perhaps one of the most overlooked ideas, make the plot take the backseat and let the gameplay drive the game. Seriously, the plot is there but it really doesn’t matter in the game. The music is at an all time high for a console Sonic game in Sonic Colors too bringing back retro-style themes except transformed with modern instrumentals. No, seriously, the soundtrack actually includes retro versions of the actual music in the game. The level Aquarium Park was the 3rd final level in Sonic Colors. It was an attraction filled with deep sea serenity and of course, an underwater theme. The buildings below the waves of Aquarium Park surprisingly resemble something like traditional Japanese architecture. Of course, it would be too easy to say that this is an ocean paradise. There are plenty of places to drown, fall off cliffs or just run into horrible hazards but don’t get me wrong….most water level are terrible but this one isn’t even close. This level had me going after a lot more enemies and there were enemy fish swarming all over the place and weren’t as scattered as the usually are in retro-inspired sonic games.
We’re marooned on a small island in an endless sea, confined to a tiny spit of sand unable to escape but tonight it’s heavy stuff.
